UNWANTED APPLAUSE
Out in the yard the breeze was just right
Skirt to the ankles sun burnin bright
Grandkids were laughin tag was the game
I took off runnin like youth had no name
But somethin behind me began to clap
A rhythm I didnt recall in the map
I froze on the lawn heart in my chest
Looked side to side like I failed some test
It was me it was flesh it was time it was mass
It was physics betrayal a waltz with no class
No shoes made the noise no child on the grass
My belly had started applauding my ass
Unwanted applause from a traitorous zone
A midsection solo I did not condone
Each stride brought a slap I could never unhear
A thunderous cheer from my lower frontier
I said what fresh hell is this round of regret
And my gut said girl weve just started the set
So I held my chin high took the walk of the damned
With a curtain call playin in my waistband band
So if you see me runnin just know what it costs
My dignitys clappin with every toss
This aint cellulite shame or some loose skin whine
Its a rhythm section built over time
Unwanted applause still strutted out dont ask me how
Cause if youve earned that slap youve survived anyhow
